Former UFC fighter Will Brooks competed at Battlefield FC in China back in 2019. The MMA fight was his first since leaving the PFL the year before.

The fight itself had its fair share of controversy as the fight was stopped prematurely with Gleison Tibau locking in a guillotine choke. The event itself was extremely controversial due to the MMA fighters not being paid.

To this day, MMA fighter Will Brooks has still not been paid for the bout. Unfortunately, he realized this one was just going to have to be an ‘L.’

“No, we didn’t get paid, man,” Will Brooks told ClutchPoints of his MMA fight at Battlefield. “$30,000! I’ll be honest, as athletes we typically don’t like sharing our financials, but different promotions and different people are going to put it online anyhow, but yeah, I didn’t get my money. I went through a bunch of legal things and being that the card was in Macau, China, I guess they’re like their own little island almost have their own little like government system. So it was like a bunch of different hoops that I had to jump through, that would have ended up having me pay more money to actually get the money. Through lawyers and a process of being international all these different things. So it was one of those things where we just had to chalk it up to an L.

It was one where we knew going into the fight, that this organization had that history. So, in that time I just had a look at it like, ‘look Will, you made a mistake, you trusted an organization that you knew had a background and not paying their fighter.’ So it’s kind of on you. So I just took that as an L and just kept on moving. It sucks to do it. Sometimes you just got to put it on your own shoulders and keep moving.”

It’s a very unfortunate situation that saw many MMA fighters fail to get paid. The card had many former UFC athletes like Will Brooks and used the event to gain a lot of attention.
