After getting swept by the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round of the NBA Playoffs, the Miami Heat opened the offseason with a bang as they made a big splash in free agency by landing superstar Kyle Lowry.

The 35-year old was brought in on a 3-year $90 million deal via sign-and-trade for Goran Dragic and Precious Achiuwa. This signals a win-now mentality for Pat Riley and the Miami Heat.

The Heat made the NBA Finals in 2020 but eventually lost to the Los Angeles Lakers. They clearly were outgunned by the Lakers' star-power in Anthony Davis and LeBron James. This clearly signaled that they need to get another superstar to play with Jimmy Butler.

Besides the Lowry news, recent NBA champion PJ Tucker has also agreed to join Miami. The Heat are going all-in this offseason as their core in Jimmy Butler and the recently acquired Lowry are not getting younger anymore.

Despite the superteams being created now, the Heat signing Kyle Lowry has certainly boosted their chances of winning the NBA title.

Here are some factors on which Kyle Lowry can positively affect the Miami Heat and its championship aspirations.

Scoring, shot creation, playmaking, and ball-handling

Miami clearly has shooters in Duncan Robinson and Tyler Herro but they often struggle to find separation and this results in chaos whenever shots are not falling. They needed another guy like Butler who can create shots for himself and for his teammates as well.

Kyle Lowry, who is a six-time All-Star, will be expected to elevate the Heat’s offense with his efficient three-point shooting and will take some of the on-ball pressure off of Butler as a facilitator since he averaged over six assists in the last 11 seasons and is one of the league's smartest players.

The Villanova product is a 3-level scorer who can get buckets whenever he wants. He can shoot the ball behind the arc and attack the basket with ease as he knows how to use his body to draw fouls.

Miami also gets another closer alongside Butler in Kyle Lowry.

Defensive potential

Kyle Lowry will join Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo to form their version of the big three in South Beach. Miami's big three is very different to that of the offensively packed Nets, Miami's trio are built for defense as they can wreak havoc every night with their physicality and hounding defense. It will be exciting to see how these three will mesh together.

The former Raptor is one of the best guards who defend at a high level. Because of his build, the point guard is a pest towards opposing teams with his on-ball defense. He also averaged at least one steal in the last 11 seasons.

Veteran presence and experience

Lowry brings a ton of veteran leadership and championship experience. He averaged 16.2 points, 7.2 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.7 steals in six games against the mighty Golden State Warriors in the 2019 NBA Finals. Lowry certainly knows what it takes to win a title and would help get the Heat over the hump.

Kyle Lowry can be a binding force and a guiding voice when the team goes through the ups and downs of the regular season and the Playoffs.

The Miami Heat roster together with Lowry's skillset, drive to win, leadership, and toughness, are really serious contenders for the NBA championship next season.
