Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal has opened up about what has been his new motivation this season.
Heading into a regular season game against the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier this month, Bradley Beal learned of the death of his grandmother. Despite grieving, the Wizards marksman still hit the basketball court and even dropped 15 points in 37 minutes of basketball.
While the unfortunate event evidently saddened Beal, he decided not to succumb to dejection and let the death of his grandmother “uplift” him.
“It definitely changes my mindset a lot,” Beal said of his grandmother's death via NBC Sports. “It's tough at times to walk on the floor because…it reminds me of her. It hits you unexpectedly but at the same time, it encourages me to keep going and encourages me in the fact that I have another level that I need to tap into and I can get to and I just serve this as motivation to get there.”
“Lean on God, lean on the pain and the experience to uplift me, to push me to get better, push me to stay in the gym, push me to be better, push me to be a great example for my boys,” he continued. “For sure, it's always unfortunate in these situations but it definitely serves as motivation.”
Beal has led the Wizards to its best start since the 2005-06 NBA season. He has continued where he left off in terms of scoring and is currently the most consistent scorer in Washington with 23.3 points per game.
