It was the same story on a different day for Bradley Beal and the Washington Wizards. The NBA's leading scorer put up a game-high 47 points against the New Orleans Pelicans at Smoothie King Center, only to find himself on the losing end of a 124-106 blowout.
It was the Wizards' third straight defeat as they fell to an NBA-worst 3-11 record.
Apart from seeing another great individual showing go for naught, Beal also clinched an unflattering record in the process. Per ESPN Statistics & Information, the 27-year-old Beal is the first player in NBA history to lose 10 straight games when scoring 40 points or more.
The Pelicans' defense had no answer for Beal for the majority of the evening. He went 17-of-37 from the field and 6-of-14 from past the arc. He also scattered four rebounds, six assists, and four steals in 40 minutes of action. But NOLA still held the lead from almost from start to finish, as Beal's teammates were again a no-show on both ends of the floor.
Garrison Matthews and Robin Lopez are the only two other Wizards to reach double figures in scoring, pitching in 15 and 14 points, respectively. It is worth noting that Russell Westbrook did not suit up due to load management.
Pelicans forwards Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson, on the other hand, feasted with 32 points apiece, while Eric Bledsoe added 18 markers.
Bradley Beal has been nothing short of amazing in his career campaign. Yet, the Wizards continue to pile up the losses. It's a classic case of a great player being on a bad team. His future in DC sure continues to look bleak following yet another stinging defeat.
