Minnesota Timberwolves star Jimmy Butler underwent surgery on his right hand on Tuesday according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports. But it doesn't appear that this surgery will stop Butler from heading to training camp at full strength. Butler will skip Team USA's minicamp in Las Vegas, Nevada, but it doesn't appear as though the operation will inhibit his offseason plans any further.

The Minnesota Timberwolves star is entering the final year of a five-year deal originally signed with the Chicago Bulls. The four-time All-Star was a catalyst on Minnesota in his first season with the team and helped guide the franchise to its first playoff appearance since 2004. Butler's 22.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game were good enough to secure a spot on the All-NBA Third Team.

While Butler's first season in Minnesota was a step in the right direction for the franchise, he may not be in town for much longer. Butler has yet to commit to the Timberwolves long-term and there are rumblings that Butler might be interested in teaming up with Kyrie Irving in 2019.

The Timberwolves won't have enough cap room to sign both superstars. If the two are serious about playing together, they'll have to find a team with the space to sign both.

The Brooklyn Nets will have enough cap room to afford two max-level contracts in 2019. Across town, the Knicks will have room for one max contract, but with some maneuvering, they could open up enough cap space for two as well.

2019 is too far off in the distance to speculate. But regardless, Minnesota will have one more year with Butler and they're doing everything they can to make it count.
