If you were planning on attending WWE‘s biggest show of the summer, the fittingly named SummerSlam, to explicitly catch the next in-ring appearance of John Cena you might want to sit down, as “The Champ” reportedly isn't going to be on the card, let alone wrestling a match at the event.

Yes, you read that correctly; according to Louis Dangoor of Give Me Sport, Cena is not currently booked for the show, which takes place on July 30, 2022, and that isn't expected to change in the proceeding weeks.

Now, for fans of Vince McMahon's company, this shouldn't come as too big of a surprise; Cena effectively let it be known to the fans assembled in Laredo, Texas and watching from home during RAW's “Cena Celebration” that he has no immediate plans to return to the ring despite some subtle – and not so subtle – hints that Theory wants a shot at the 16-time champion but still, fans hoping to witness a few more matches from the Painmaker star held out hope that maybe, just maybe, he'd shock the world and deliver onto fans another classic performance on a massive stage.

*sigh* I guess fans will have to hold out for WrestleMania 39 and hope that “Hollywood” Cena makes his way back into the squared circle for a match against… The Miz? Theory? Riddle? Honestly, the only constant WWE fans can hold onto heading into WrestleMania 39 is that Roman Reigns will probably still have both championships and that another Hollywood star, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, will probably be his opponent.
