The New York Yankees are dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak. While that part of the story has been widely reported on, there's now a twist involving the CDC.

The following is a statement from the New York State Department of Health:

“While there have been anecdotal reports of New Yorkers who have had a positive COVID test 14 or more days after receiving their last vaccine dose, DOH is investigating those cases along with the ones linked to the Yankees further to determine if they meet the formal CDC definition of vaccine breakthrough,” the statement said

It's worth noting, that despite seven people now testing positive within the organization, the Yankees were able to relax COVID-19 protocols in late April after 85% of the team were fully vaccinated.

Six of the seven members are asymptomatic, something manager Aaron Boone feels pretty good about.

“I think one of the things we're seeing is that being vaccinated en masse like we are, we're seeing the vaccinations also kind of blunt the effects of the virus,” Boone said, via ESPN. “I feel like in a lot of ways, because we're vaccinated, we're kind of good and able to deal with this. So there's a little bit of a frustrating part there, in all the testing that we're gonna do.”

Regardless of fan affiliation, let's hope the Yankees can get back to full heath sooner or later. It's really hard to hate on The Empire when they're up against it like this.
