Gerrit Cole only went 2+ innings and the offense for the New York Yankees sputtered on Tuesday night as they were eliminated from the postseason in a 6-2 loss to their rivals, the Boston Red Sox.

The year will be chalked up as a disappointing one for the Yankees as they were unable to even make it to the ALDS.

Following the loss, Yankees manager Aaron Boone spoke about his future with the organization and the unknown surrounding it, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com

“Obviously, my contract is up. I haven't had any conversations about that with anyone, so we'll see. I love being here. I love going to work with this group of players…Whatever does happen, I'm at peace with. I know that I can hold my head high”

Yankees fans have responded on both ends of the spectrum with some thinking the issues rest on the shoulders of general manager Brian Cashman or even zooming in the microscope on this one game and recognizing that their $324 million ace, Cole, only gave Boone two innings.

Others think it's time for a blowup and that Boone needs to be replaced after just four years as the manger for the Yankees.

Regardless of where the blame is pinned, the Yankees have fallen short of their expectations yet again and this one will sting a little bit more as it came against their biggest rival in a one game, winner-take-all scenario.

The Red Sox will move on to face the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALDS.
