The Yankees attempted to sign Aaron Judge.

They reportedly offered him an extension worth $213 million over 7 years, which would have been more than what Mike Trout and Mookie Betts make annually. But Judge apparently turned down the offer and there is not expected to be an Aaron Judge extension.

Judge previously stated that the deadline for contract discussions was first pitch on Opening Day. But Brian Cashman broke the news that there would not be an extension two hours prior to first pitch on Friday. So on a day where fans of most teams are filled with enthusiasm and joy for their team's upcoming seasons, Opening Day will be bittersweet for Yankees fans this year.

With that being said, this news does not necessarily mean that Judge is destined to leave New York. The Yankees could still re-sign him in free agency during next offseason. But it also brings plenty of uncertainty to a potential contract. There will also be other teams involved which will increase the price of his salary.

From Aaron Judge's perspective, he is clearly betting on himself. He could stand to lose money if he takes a step backward or deals with injuries in 2022. On the other hand, the superstar outfielder could post a monster season and increase his potential earnings even further.

It will be interesting to see how Judge performs and what kind of contract he ends up receiving. For now, Aaron Judge will focus on leading New York to their first World Series championship since 2009 in what could possibly be his final season in a Yankee uniform.
