New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole has tested positive for COVID-19 and has been scratched from his start on Tuesday against the Baltimore Orioles. However, there is still a chance that it was a false positive, considering he is fully vaccinated:

This is just the latest of numerous COVID-19 problems for the Yankees. They've been one of the main organizations hit heavily by the virus and losing Cole is definitely a blow.

The hard-throwing righty has gone 10-6 this season with a 3.11 ERA, but he's struggled immensely since the All-Star break. Cole gave up seven earned runs in his last start against the Tampa Bay Rays and has surrendered a total of 11 runs in four outings since the festivities in Denver.

The Yankees need all the help they can get right now, with the team still seven games out in the AL East and three games behind in the Wild Card race. Anthony Rizzo has been a terrific addition so far, already clubbing two homers since coming over from the Cubs at the deadline.

Considering Cole is vaxxed, he isn't expected to miss a lot of time.

Nestor Cortes Jr. will start in his place against the Orioles as the Bronx Bombers look to bounce back from a 7- 1 loss in the series opener on Monday evening.
