Six players from the New York Yankees are heading to the 2022 MLB All-Star Game. One of them, catcher Jose Trevino, is doing so in his first season in New York.

Trevino spent four seasons with the Texas Rangers before joining the Yankees and becoming their primary backstop as they dominate the majors. Upon being told he was a first-time All-Star, Trevino could hardly believe it. The 29-year-old was on the verge of tears and said that he was originally planning to buy a car during All-Star Weekend because he was unsure he would make it.

Trevino has been a godsend for the Yankees on both sides of the plate. His value on defense has been huge, especially as a pitch framer, and his hitting has been very impressive. In 57 games, he has a .741 OPS with 39 hits and seven home runs. His defense has been a major contributor to the outstanding seasons that Yankees pitchers are having.

Leading up to this year, the catcher position has been a divisive topic for Yankees fans thanks to Gary Sanchez. After trading him this offseason, New York has a catcher that fans have quickly fallen in love with. Trevino is a fan favorite and will likely be one for a long time.

Jose Trevino is headed to the MLB All-Star Game with teammates Aaron Judge, Gerrit Cole and Giancarlo Stanton and make his first All-Star appearance alongside Nestor Cortes and Clay Holmes.
