Aaron Boone and the New York Yankees are known to be a step ahead of most of their rivals in the AL East. This squad prides itself in prospect development and has gotten to reap the benefits of that program. The next big hitter that they are developing is Jasson Dominguez. He might be the next Aaron Judge but the time has not yet come for him. However, the squad has made a big call regarding his career which involves their Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.

Staying with the RailRiders

Jasson Dominguez has been reinstated by the Yankees, per Jon Morossi of the MLB Network. This move also meant that Jon Berti was placed in the 60-day IL to clear a spot. Aaron Boone and the rest of the organization has now deemed the 21-year-old ready to take the next step after his injury rehabilitation assignment. While a lot of the Yankees faithful are itching to have him replace Trent Grisham, he will be optioned to the RailRiders first.

There could be two big reasons why this move was made. Jasson Dominguez just underwent Tommy John surgery due to a torn ligament in his elbow. This is what halted him from returning to the Yankees last after he got called up by Aaron Boone. Now, they are taking all the precautions to prevent his future from crumbling. So, the move to the RailRiders makes sense given the status of his health.

Another factor is the depth that the Yankees currently have with their batters. Aaron Judge is leading the way for this squad while Alex Verdugo, Giancarlo Stanton, Trent Grisham, and Juan Soto have his back in the lineup. This squad has managed to help the Yankees create some separation against the Baltimore Orioles in the past 10 games. They went for an insane run which netted the squad eight wins and just two losses.

If Dominguez does get called up for any reason, he might replace Grisham given his drop in production. But, it will be an unproductive move for the Yankees because they are developing him. Not being able to play despite being in the majors will surely hurt his momentum on the field and might even make him lose some rhythm.

A big future with the Yankees

There's a reason why the Yankees are very careful with the moves that involve Dominguez. Boone wants to set this team up for success for more years to come and someone who's 21 years of age can clearly help with that. Prior to assigning him to the RailRiders, his numbers during the rehabilitation process show a lot of promise.

Dominguez used the bat effectively with a line of .368/.415/.658. He produced all of this in a span of 20 games in the Triple-A. Those numbers are surely going to skyrocket because of his comfort coming back after the surgery. The Yankees' coaches have also been great in helping him develop at bat.

It will not take long for Dominguez to get called up again. Once he does, he might be a staple in the Yankees' batting rotation along with Aaron Judge.
