Why The Yankees Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Yankees have been one of the best teams in the MLB with a 49-22 record. They are neck and neck with the Phillies as the best team in the league. They recently broke a four-game winning streak heading into this game with a loss. Their bats have been great and their pitching is the best in the league. Juan Soto is a huge difference maker and an MVP-caliber player who was added to go with Anthony Rizzo, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Anthony Rizzo, and Anthony Volpe behind the plate. Nestor Cortes, Marcus Stroman, Clarke Schmidt, Luis Gil, and Carlos Rodon have all been at varying levels of good to great on the mound.

The Yankees are starting Carlos Rodon at pitcher where he has a 9-2 record, a 2.93 ERA, and a 1.05 WHIP. Rodon has allowed 27 runs on 64 hits with 20 walks and 74 strikeouts through 80 innings. He has started in 14 games and the Yankees have gone 11-3 in those games. Rodon is among the best pitchers in a deep rotation for the Yankees and is statistically the best in the MLB. This will be a difficult matchup against the Red Sox and their offense, which has been playing much better recently.

The biggest key for the Yankees is their offense. They are ranked fifth in the MLB currently in team batting average at .254 which is a massive improvement after struggling to .227 last season. Juan Soto has been a huge key player, leading in almost every batting category next to Aaron Judge. Soto leads the way in batting average at .320, in OBP at .433, and in total hits at 80. Judge then leads in home runs at 25 and in RBI at 62. This offense has an interesting matchup against Cooper Criswell for Boston, who has been inconsistent on the mound but has mostly played well on the year.

Why The Red Sox Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Red Sox have been average for the most part this season. They have a 35-34 record. They have won three of their last four games heading into this matchup. Statistically, the Red Sox are in the top 10 of the MLB behind the plate and then are top five in pitching. Tyler O'Neill, Triston Casas, Jarren Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela, and Rafael Devers are all talented players and have been solid to a varying degree behind the plate so far this season. When it comes to their pitching Tanner Houck, Kutter Crawford, Nick Pivetta, and Garrett Whitlock despite his current injury have made up a great pitching staff with all of them having varying levels of great to boost their pitching.

The Red Sox are starting Cooper Criswell on the mound where he has a 3-3 record, a 4.13 ERA, and a 1.21 WHIP. He has allowed 28 runs on 47 hits with 11 walks and 43 strikeouts through 48 total innings this season. Through the 11 games that he has appeared in this year the Red Sox are 7-4. Criswell has played decent at times this season, but needs to be more consistent. This is a difficult matchup because of how well the Yankees have been playing this entire season behind the plate.

The Red Sox's offense has been gotten better and is playing much better this season. They are eighth in team batting average at .250 after finishing last season at .258. The offense is led by Rafael Devers, Ceddanne Rafaela, and Jarren Duran in most batting categories behind the plate. Devers leads in batting average at .286, in home runs at 13, and in OBP at .378. Rafaela leads in RBI at 37, and then Duran in total hits at 77. Rodon presents a massive challenge for the Red Sox offense, even with how well Boston's offense has played recently.

Final Yankees-Red Sox Prediction & Pick

The Yankees are head and shoulders the better team in this matchup against the Red Sox. The Yankees have the better pitcher in this game with Rodon compared to Criswell for the Red Sox. The Red Sox also have gotten better on offense, but the Yankees are the better team behind the plate and have the star power. Expect the Yankees to win cover on the road in Boston.
