Entering play after making a statement in Kansas City with a 10-1 blowout win, the Yankees are proving that they are a well-oiled machine with no plans of slowing down anytime soon. Equipped with a 48-21 record, New York boasts the top mark in all of baseball and have managed to win eight of their last ten games. With three straight victories under their belts, can the Yankees make a mockery of the Royals for the second straight contest?

On the other side of things, the Royals were thoroughly embarrassed on their home turf during the opening game of this series. Losers of the first two games of the series versus the AL leaders, Kansas City will be more than desperate to avoid getting swept. Nonetheless, the Royals have still been one of the more surprising teams in all of the majors this season. Currently, KC holds an impressive 39-29 record and is 5.5 games out of first place in the AL Central.

Why The Yankees Will Cover The Spread/Win

There are clearly a plethora of reasons why the Yankees could end up bringing out the brooms for a sweep of the Royals, but for this to occur, all signs point to a scalding hot offense to continue to pave the way for this New York squad.

Not only did the ‘Yanks reach the ten-run threshold on Tuesday, but their offense has seemingly not missed a beat all year long. In fact, the Yankees are the second-highest-scoring team in the majors. Simply put, the addition of outfielder Juan Soto has given this offense an incredible boost, but the sheer dominance of Aaron Judge is what makes this team so special. After belting his league-leading 25th homer against the Royals on Tuesday night, Judge also leads baseball with 62 RBIs and the top OPS which stands at a whopping 1.149. Only two years removed from mashing 62 home runs, Judge is in the midst of a bounce-back season after missing out on 56 games during the 2023 season.

All in all, it is important to remember that New York is also a combined 7-3 in their last ten games versus Kansas City. For those that are planning on riding upon the Yankees winning tidal wave, then this stat alone could be the sole reason for that.

Why The Royals Will Cover The Spread/Win

Without a doubt, the Royals turnaround in 2024 thus far has been magnificent to say the least. Believe it or not, but KC has not made the postseason since 2015 when their winning magic culminated into hoisting their second-ever World Series trophy. Despite being losers of three straight, there are still things to like about the Royals in this matchup with the Yankees.

For starters, the bats haven't been too shabby whatsoever. On paper, Kansas City ranks within the top five of the majors in runs scored and also have become prone to finding ways to crush baseballs into the outfield bleachers. With that being said, the Royals possess a .411 slugging percentage which is the sixth-best in baseball. Not to mention, but the further development of shortstop Bobby Witt Jr has been a sight to behold. As it stands, the Kansas City middle infielder is raking a team-high .321 from the plate and has also hit 11 homers to go along with 48 runs batted in.

Obviously enough, the biggest question mark for these Royals heading into play is in the form of a pitching staff that has been pelted for a total of 14 runs in the two games of this series. While going up against the New York bats proves to never be an easy task, someone on this Kansas City squad needs to put forth some stellar pitching if the Royals want to give their home fans something to smile about.

Final Yankees-Royals Prediction & Pick

In this heavyweight battle between a pair of offenses that are no strangers in ripping the cover off the baseball, expect a high-scoring affair and plenty of excitement. However, the Yankees are playing like true World Series contenders and have their eyes set on the ultimate prize. Expect them to come out and pick up right where they left off from Tuesday's smackdown.
