CD Projekt Red (CDPR) announced that Nintendo Switch owners can now buy The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt separately from its expansions.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CDPR's critically-acclaimed game from 2015, first arrived on the Nintendo Switch in October 2019. Fans only had one option in buying the game before. To play The Witcher 3 on their Nintendo Switch consoles, they had to buy the “Complete Edition.” The Complete Edition came with the base game and the two expansions in one $60 bundle.

Starting today, players can buy The Witcher 3 base game on the Nintendo Eshop for $40. Hearts of Stone, the first expansion, is available for $10. Finally, The Blood and Wine expansion is available for $20. The option to buy the $60 Complete Edition bundle will still be available.

THE WITCHER 3: WILD HUNT IS COMING TO THE PS5 AND XBOX SERIES X/S

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is often considered by many gamers to be one of the best games ever made. 5 years after its release, it still holds up to current standards and remains to be a best-seller among different platforms. It is then interesting that CDPR thought that it's necessary to release a next-gen console version of the game.

The PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and a new PC version will be coming later this year. The updated version will “take advantage of the most powerful gaming hardware.” It also “will feature a range of visual and technical improvements — including ray tracing and faster loading times.”

If you already have a copy of the game on current-gen consoles, then you won't have to feel like you're missing out. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next-gen version will be available for free for current owners of the game. They have a similar stance with their highly-controversial Cyberpunk 2077. “Gamers should never be forced to purchase the same game twice or pay for upgrades,” says CDPR when they announced that PS4 and Xbox One X owners of Cyberpunk 2077 will also receive a free PS5 or Xbox Series X version of the game.
