Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors are off to a flying start by winning their first three games of the 2021-22 NBA season. Golden State took care of business, defeating their three in-state rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Sacramento Kings to open their campaign. The Warriors have championship aspirations this year and their first three wins suggest they need to be taken seriously as title contenders.

Steph is being Steph. Draymond Green is being that defensive anchor and playmaker that the Warriors know and love. And the Warriors are getting enough offensive punch from everyone to support Curry, led by third-year guard Jordan Poole, who had a magnificent preseason. All they need is Klay Thompson to be back and healthy and they should be a force to be reckoned with in the West. A lot has gone right for the Dubs amidst their 3-0 start. However, though Green is bringing his usual fire and tenacity on defense, his scoring has become a pleasant surprise for the Warriors through the first week of the new season.

Draymond Green's scoring

It's just three games, but there just seems to be a different mindset from Draymond Green this season in terms of scoring the basketball. The three-time All-Star did say during the offseason that he will look to be more aggressive in finding his shot. So far, he has been a man of his word. Through three games for the Warriors, in addition to his 6.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists, the former Michigan State Spartan is averaging 10.0 points on 54.5 percent shooting from the field.

He looked particularly more assertive offensively in their most recent win over the Sacramento Kings, where he scored 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 1-of-2 from long range. The last time Green attempted at least 12 shots in a game was on April 1, 2021, when he went 7-of-13 from the field in a loss to the Miami Heat. That was also a game they played without Stephen Curry. Green also only had five games last season where he had double-digit shot attempts and he didn't do so until the 20th game of the campaign for the Warriors.

Seeing Green notch 30 total points already this early into the season is also a welcoming sight for Dub Nation. Compared to last season, he didn't reach 10 total points until his fourth game and didn't notch his second double-digit scoring night until Game 13. In three games this year, he already has two, after he scored 10 points in their second game against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Green's aggressiveness has also translated into his free-throw attempts. The 6-foot-6 forward did not attempt more than six freebies in a game in all of last season — and that came in their regular-season finale against the Memphis Grizzlies. He had nine free-throw attempts against the Clippers last Thursday. Though he was absolutely atrocious from the foul line during that game, converting just 2-of-9, the high number of attempts is a testament to Green's newfound aggressiveness to attack and look to score.

Draymond Green's defensive presence and elite playmaking ability are undoubtedly key to the Warriors' success. But just being a mere threat to score is going to help ease the scoring burden off of Stephen Curry that will give the 2-time MVP more energy to do Stephen Curry things when the Dubs need it the most. The Warriors certainly hope this early season trend from Green continues the entire season.
