The Jacksonville Jaguars have had quite the offseason reeling in as much talent as possible to improve the roster. After a disappointing rookie season, Trevor Lawrence aims to bounce back with a much more competent coaching staff. Just based on that, this team should make improvements from last year. However, they'll need some players to step up if they want to make some noise in the AFC South. With that in mind, we look at one surprising X-Factor who will emerge for the Jaguars in the 2022 NFL season.

Expectations for this franchise should be focusing on progress rather than a playoff appearance. As long as Lawrence shows he's developing his game, then the Jaguars' future will be bright. He can't do it by himself though, so all eyes are on the receiving core next year. If they can be consistent, then Jacksonville's passing game could be surprisingly dangerous with Trevor Lawrence under center.

Having said that, one pass option stands out as the X-Factor for this team. We should expect guys like Christian Kirk and Marvin Jones Jr. to play well, as we've seen them perform in the past. One veteran player does need to prove himself though and he has a chance to bounce back with the Jaguars. Another consistent pass option won't hurt and Jacksonville will be much more competitive for it.

With that said, here is our one surprising X-Factor to emerge for the Jaguars in the 2022 NFL season.

Jaguars X-Factor To Emerge In 2022 NFL Season

Evan Engram

After breaking out as a rookie star with the New York Giants, Evan Engram's production drastically fell. He struggled with injuries and when he was on the field, drops plagued what could have been monster performances. He now finds himself in Jacksonville with a fresh new start, which is exactly what he needs. The Jaguars should be excited to have Engram on the roster, as he can be a major contributor for the 2022 season and beyond.

While most of the attention will be on the rushing attack and the wide receivers, that should allow Evan Engram to find open space as a safety blanket for Trevor Lawrence. That is the bare minimum of what he can provide for the Jaguars. Especially considering he is an uber-athletic tight end who is a mismatch nightmare for most linebackers in the league.

Additionally, Doug Pederson has a history of utilizing the tight end often in his offensive scheme. Zach Ertz excelled under Pederson during his tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles. This makes for a prime situation for Evan Engram, as he could emerge as a top pass option for the Jaguars.

If everything goes smoothly, Jacksonville could have an elite-level tight end on the roster. Between his athleticism and favorable pairing with Doug Pederson, expectations should be high for Evan Engram. Although that's true, it's up to him to become that versatile weapon the Jaguars need. Engram has never really resolved his drop issue, which could alter his production in the 2022 NFL season.

Keep an eye on him, especially once training camp begins. There is a real chance Engram turns heads and generates buzz for Jaguars to get excited about. If that's the case, then Jacksonville may have a star tight end at Trevor Lawrence's disposal.
