The NFL Trade Deadline is approaching on Nov. 2. The Las Vegas Raiders are in a position to compete for the playoffs despite all the distractions. It's a good time to take a look at the two best trades the Raiders should make ahead of the NFL Trade Deadline.

The Raiders find themselves first in the AFC West division with a 5-2 record. With all that has happened with this team, they are still winning games and putting themselves in a great position to contend. It's possible the Raiders go out and bring in players to make them even stronger. Both sides of the ball are looking for improvements and there is less than a week left to pull the trigger.

Imagine bringing in an elite receiver for Derek Carr to throw too. That is a possibility. The current receiver core is playing well but lacks a major playmaking wideout. There are a handful of options but one stands out the most. As for the defensive side, the secondary is thin at cornerback. If the Raiders were serious about making some trades to improve, they should start with those two positions.

Raiders targets ahead of NFL trade deadline

Brandin Cooks

The Houston Texans could potentially be sellers at the NFL Trade Deadline. They already traded away Mark Ingram to the New Orleans Saints, so sending off Cooks isn't out of the question. Cooks would be a great addition to the Raiders offense. He alongside Henry Ruggs II and Hunter Renfrow would display quiet the route-running trio. It shouldn't take more than a third or fourth-round pick to get him.

Cooks started the season hot for the Texans. He is currently the 19th ranked receiver per ESPN fantasy football rankings. If he is inserted into the Raiders offense then Carr might actually have a chance at leading the NFL in passing yards. He's currently third with 2,269 yards. Cooks brings veteran leadership and a desire to win. He and Carr would form good chemistry pretty quickly.

Xavien Howard

Howard is considered one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL for the Miami Dolphins. It's clear the Dolphins are nowhere near the level they thought they would be at. They sit at just 1-6 through Week 7 of the NFL. The defense isn't as strong as we all thought and it would be a good time to get rid of Howard. The two-time pro bowler has two interceptions on the season and would boost the Raiders' secondary tremendously.

The Raiders are dealing with injuries to the cornerback position and could use Howards' presence right away. Howard might have a high price tag because of how good he is. He did come into the season unhappy with his contract and asked for a trade. That talk quieted as the season progressed but it could pick up again as the deadline is approaching. If Howard does indeed find himself wanting out of Miami, then that should lower the price for him. Either way, the Raiders should consider bringing in Howard to boost their secondary.
