Hoping to win another AFC championship this season and run away with the Lombardi Trophy, the Chiefs definitely haven't had it easy this season. However, their recent adjustments and improved game plan have allowed them to come away with four straight wins and place themselves in a four way tie for first place in the AFC.

With the playoffs fast approaching, the Chiefs know that every game is a must-win for them if they want to gain homefield advantage and earn a first-round bye in this year's playoffs. So without further interruption, let us now take a look at two takeaways from their rout of the Broncos in Week 13.

Kansas City Chiefs Week 13 Takeaways vs. Denver Broncos

2. The Chiefs haven't had the same explosion on offense lately

Just as it started looking like they had shaken off the rust, the Chiefs once again had a series of miscues on offense and were missing several big opportunities to score multiple touchdowns Sunday night. Even though they did come away with a big win, they clearly still have some work to do on offense and will need to make a few more adjustments to their game plan in the coming weeks.

As Patrick Mahomes and Co. continue to search for ways to run a more efficient offense, they'll need to be at their best if they want to come out on top in their remaining games. This fight won't be easy for them, but if they want to get back to playing championship-caliber football, then they'll need to find a workable solution for their incredibly streaky play on the offensive end.

1. Kansas City's defense has stepped up over the past few weeks

After having gone through a huge portion of the season with a subpar showing on defense, Kansas City has stepped their game up on that side of the field during their current winning streak. Just as the Broncos were putting together a late-game drive to score a game tying touchdown, the Chiefs defense came up with a big stop that saw veteran safety Daniel Sorensen break free for a pick six that sealed the win for Kansas City.

If they expect make another Super Bowl run this season and bring the Lombardi Trophy back to Arrowhead Stadium, then they'll need a more balanced attack on both sides of the ball. This is something that the Chiefs have been consistently getting from their defense over the past couple of weeks–especially with the offense still trying to work through their recent slip-ups.

Currently on the winning end of two straight defensive slugfests, the Chiefs are slowly but surely making their case as a sound defensive unit that can rise to the occasion when they can't get anything going on the offensive end. So as they continue to make strides and progress on that side of the field, they should be able to power through for another deep postseason run.
