The Carolina Panthers have built themselves a solid roster. On paper, this is a vastly improved team looking to make some noise next year. Since becoming the head coach, Matt Rhule has followed through with his game plan to rebuild the team. They're still young and developing, but the Panthers are moving in the right direction once again.

For the second consecutive year in a row, Carolina dominated the NFL Draft. They took Jaycee Horn with their first pick, a player that is polished and ready to start immediately. He'll help improve the Panthers' pass coverage next year. Carolina also landed Terrace Marshall Jr., Brady Christensen, and Tommy Tremble. Marshall Jr. is an athletic receiver who could make an impact as a slot receiver before taking over a larger role later on in his career. As for Christensen, he's an offensive tackle that needs some development work, but he's versatile and can play both offensive tackle positions. Lastly, tight end wasn't a dire need, but the Panthers took Tremble anyway. He doesn't have much experience, but his athleticism gives him the potential to become a star in the league one day.

Although Carolina did well in the 2021 NFL Draft, there were still a couple of mistakes made by the front office. Luckily for them, they are not make-or-break mistakes and the team should be fine with who they have on the roster. With that said, here are the two mistakes the Panthers made in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Didn't draft an inside linebacker

The Panthers entered the offseason with a need for an inside linebacker. They did sign Denzel Perryman, however, he's a bit average at the position. It would have been nice to see the front office select an inside linebacker that could potentially sub-in during his rookie year. Instead, the position was ignored which could make the position a weak spot on the defense.

Even so, the front office signed Paddy Fisher as an undrafted free agent. Fisher played four years at Northwestern before declaring for the draft. At the very least, Carolina got a depth piece at the position, however, as an undrafted free agent, there is no guarantee he makes the team.

Took too many defensive tackles

The Panthers were in the bottom half of the league at stopping the run last year. They allowed 1,936 yards and 17 touchdowns, which tired out the defense often. Clearly, the front office made decisions to fix that problem this offseason. During the offseason, the organization signed DaQuan Jones, who has been a decent run-stopper for the Tennessee Titans the past few years. Additionally, the team also drafted two more defensive tackles during the 2021 NFL Draft.

Stopping the run is important, but having Derrick Brown, Bravvion Roy, DaQuan Jones, and Mike Panasiuk on the roster already, Carolina probably didn't need to draft Daviyon Nixon and Phil Hoskins. If stopping the run is at the top of the priority list, the Panthers could have selected an inside linebacker to help in that area instead. It would have helped in more ways than one.
