The Toronto Blue Jays entered the 2022 season with sky high expectations after missing the postseason by just one game in 2021. The Blue Jays re-stocked their roster with All-Star Kevin Gausman, star third baseman Matt Chapman, and more depth to surround their star-studded lineup over the offseason.

The Blue Jays have not dominated the competition like some expected so far this season, but they have played well. They are multiple games over .500 and right in the thick of the AL East.

Fans of the Blue Jays have already shared some strong reactions to the team’s 2022 performance. Without further ado, here are 3 Blue Jays overreactions after one month of the season.

3 Blue Jays Overreactions After One Month of the Season

Overreaction: Bo Bichette Can’t Hit!

I genuinely saw a fan write this on Twitter the other day. Does Bo Bichette have a wild swing that sometimes looks painful? Yes. But he has proven to be a quality hitter at the big league level and is going to be fine.

Bichette’s .238 average isn’t concerning to me at all. The season is so young that he could raise that to a respectable number within a week. The one glaring issue is the on-base ability. Bichette’s OBP currently sits at under .270 and he has walked just 5 total times. That means he isn’t working deep into counts and is a little over aggressive to start the year.

As long as Bichette can make the necessary adjustment and start taking a few more pitches, he will end up having a nice 2022 campaign.

Overreaction: The Starting Rotation is Garbage!

This is actually a valid overreaction. Pitchers not named Kevin Gausman and Alek Manoah have labored so far for the Blue Jays in the starting rotation.

Jose Berrios was expected to be the ace of the rotation. Toronto envisioned big things for the right-hander when they acquired him from Minnesota a season ago. But his ERA of over 5 and WHIP of over 1.40 has fans concerned. But Berrios is a good pitcher who is going to lower those numbers.

Expect the right-hander to get the ERA down to the 3’s before too long.

Patience is the key for the Blue Jays rotation. Other arms will begin figuring it out, and Toronto could always make a trade if they feel that another starter would compliment the team.

The Blue Jays rotation is certainly not garbage, especially with Kevin Gausman continuing to do Cy Young caliber things

Overreaction: The AL East is too Good for the Blue Jays to Win

The Yankees are playing out of their minds and the Rays keep reeling off wins in a quiet manner. But the Orioles and Red Sox are towards the bottom of the division, and the East is shaping up to be a three horse race.

And the Blue Jays can easily still win the AL East. Toronto’s lineup is every bit as deep as New York's, and their rotation could end up being better than the Yankees once everyone starts contributing. The Blue Jays arguably are better than both New York and Tampa Bay on paper and the results will speak for themselves at season’s end.

With potential MVP and Cy Young candidates leading the charge in Vladimir Guerrero Jr and Kevin Gausman, I am confident in this Toronto ball club.

The AL East is certainly not out of the Blue Jay’s grasp.
