The Minnesota Timberwolves are going to have some interesting decisions to make in the remainder of 2022. They could decide to potentially get rid of a guy like D'Angelo Russell, even though that would not be a smart decision for this organization.

There have been many rumors that they were going to go after Ben Simmons from the Philadelphia 76ers ever since those trade rumors came out but unless they don't have to trade one of their big three guys in Karl Anthony-Towns, Anthony Edwards, or D'Angelo Russell, it could be a smart move for them. If they have to give up any of those three guys, they need to think about going a different way and going out and getting a different impactful piece.

In order for the Timberwolves to do exactly what they want to do in 2022, they're going to need to avoid some major mistakes. Let's take a look at three areas that Timberwolves must avoid in order for them to get to where they want to be in the future and for now.

Timberwolves Must Avoids 2022

3. Stay confident and keep playing with that same fire and passion

The Timberwolves are a young and exciting team mixed with some veterans who just have a lot of fun and play with fire while they're on the court. There's a reason why they are looking at a playoff spot at the moment even though they have been dealing with injuries throughout the entire season. If they want to continue having the same success that they are currently finding, they need to continue playing with that passion and fire that they have been playing with for the first half of the season.

When a team has a lot of fun just like the Timberwolves do, you never know what can happen. All of a sudden things just start falling for teams like this and they all of a sudden make a deep playoff run just because they have so much confidence and play the game the right way.

2. Do not trade D'Angelo Russell

There have been many speculations out there that the Timberwolves are going to trade D'Angelo Russell for potentially Ben Simmons or somebody like that. This would be a horrible idea from the Timberwolves standpoint because Russell is playing very good basketball. On the season he's averaging 18.7 points and has done everything he possibly can to help this team be .500.

He has been able to carry this team while Towns was sidelined and that's something that they need to realize because if they can just pair him with a few role pieces, the Timberwolves are going to be a scary team. Edwards, Towns, and Russell can certainly win an NBA championship if they can just build around this team with the correct pieces that are needed.

There is no reason to get rid of D'Angelo Russell because whoever you bring back probably isn't going to be as impactful and helpful to this team. Sure, the Timberwolves could use a defensive-minded wing and Ben Simmons is certainly that. The reality of the situation is he does not score the basketball and he's afraid to shoot at times which is not what the Timberwolves want. Unless the Timberwolves can get Ben Simmons for somebody other than Russell, KAT, or Anthony Edwards, they need to not do this trade.

1. Make a splash at the deadline

When looking at this Timberwolves roster, they clearly have areas that they can improve on, but they do have three guys who are very good NBA players.

There's no reason for the Timberwolves to decide to get rid of any of these guys because they are all going to make a huge contribution for this team now and in the future. What Minnesota needs to think about doing is bringing in another guy to pair next to these three guys. They can go out and get a guy like Jerami Grant, Ben Simmons, or somebody else. If they can, nobody is going to want to play the Minnesota Timberwolves because they are going to be loaded in their starting five.

Obviously, Minnesota hasn't necessarily found all the success that they were hoping for this year but they are still a .500 team and still hold a playoff spot at the moment. If Minnesota can continue to get healthy, they will be sitting pretty come playoff time. If Anthony Edwards, D'Angelo Russell, and Towns can keep playing like this, no team is going to want to see this team in an elimination playoff game.

They need to make a huge space at the deadline and instead of giving one of these three guys up, they need to bring one of their own guys in.
