Before the 2019-20 season was suspended due to COVID-19, the Phoenix Suns were on their way to missing the playoffs for the 10th consecutive season. The last time the team was in the postseason was all the way back in 2010. That's when Steve Nash and Amar'e Stoudemire led the franchise to the Western Conference Finals, where Phoenix lost to Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers in six games.

Suns shooting guard Devin Booker has established himself as one of the best scorers in the NBA. He made his first All-Star team this season and was averaging 26.1 points per game before the campaign was suspended.

Phoenix, though, had a record of just 26-39. The team was in the 13th spot in the Western Conference standings.

Former No. 1 overall pick Deandre Ayton only appeared in 30 games because of a suspension that cost him 25 games. He also dealt with an ankle injury after coming back, so the season was kind of a nightmare for Ayton. That's despite his averages of 19.0 points and 12.0 rebounds in 33.2 minutes a night.

NBA owners are hopeful of resuming the season in the summer. However, the odds as of now don't look that great.

With that said, here are three moves Suns general manager James Jones and his staff should consider making whenever the 2020 offseason period begins.

3. Extend Kelly Oubre Jr.

Oubre signed a two-year, $30 million contract to stay with the Suns last summer. Now, Phoenix would be smart to extend the swingman despite his recent knee surgery.

Before he went under the knife, Oubre was averaging 18.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists while shooting 45.2 percent from the field, 35.2 percent from beyond the arc, and 78.0 percent from the free-throw line. More importantly, Oubre has a great rapport with Booker on and off the court and he wants to be a Sun.

How many times has a player come out and said he wants to stay with the Suns long term? Phoenix should reward Oubre for his comments with an extension since he's versatile and helps the team make winning plays. The 24-year-old forward, who played his college ball at Kansas, has career NBA averages of 10.9 points and 4.1 rebounds with the Washington Wizards and Suns. Oubre was the 15th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft.

2. Sign Alec Burks

Burks split time with the Golden State Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers this season. He is making $2.3 million and is averaging 15.1 points per game.

The Suns need a playmaker who can come off the bench and score in a hurry, especially when Booker is on the sidelines getting rest or in foul trouble. Phoenix had the fourth-worst scoring bench in the NBA in 2019-20. They were only getting 30.1 points per game off their bench.

Burks, who will turn 29 in July, has career averages of 10.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists.

1. Sign Shabazz Napier

Re-signing Oubre last season was probably the biggest free-agent move the Suns have made in a while. Not a lot of stars are looking to sign with the Suns since the franchise has been a walking disaster for almost a decade now.

With that said, the Suns need to be smart with their time and money and pursue guys they know they can get. Phoenix needs an adequate point guard to run the offense when starter Ricky Rubio isn't in the game. Napier fits that bill.

Shabazz played for the Minnesota Timberwolves and Wizards in 2019-20. The former UConn star averaged 10.3 points and 5.0 assists. That's the type of production the Suns would love to have.
