The New York Jets have finally put themselves in a position to succeed.

With a good draft, the Jets have added even more young talent to the roster. They also have a new head coach in former 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh. Saleh seems ready to coach a team– a talented group that seems to have what it takes to become a great squad.

While it may not happen in year one of Saleh's tenure, the Jets are ready to compete soon. It's all about getting the talent to coalesce in Saleh's system to create a great team.

The Jets drafted quarterback Zach Wilson with the second overall pick, and he has all the tools to become a franchise quarterback. They also did a great job of surrounding the rookie with weapons and protection through the rest of the draft.

New York also has some players who could break out and develop into stars this season. With that said, here are three potential breakout players for the New York Jets in the 2021 NFL season.

3. Wide receiver Denzel Mims

Denzel Mims had some injury issues in his 2020 rookie season, but he  has great potential. Mims was also limited by the lack of talent around him on offense. He will be playing in an improved scheme, and the talent around him is far better.

With rookies Wilson, Alijah Vera Tucker, and Elijah Moore coming in, Mims and the Jets are primed to improve vastly on offense. Mims is a jump ball receiver that will be a big target for Wilson. With Moore as a threat for the defense, Mims will get more one-on-one matchups that he can win with ease. He has all the talent he needs to be a great wide receiver in the NFL and could breakout this season.

2. Tight end Chris Herndon IV

Chris Herndon IV is another player that will benefit from an improved offense. Herndon IV has all the skills to be a great tight end, but he hasn't put it all together.

Saleh brought in an offensive coordinator in Mike LaFleur, who worked with George Kittle on the San Francisco 49ers team. Now, Herndon IV may not get up to the level that Kittle produces, but he should progress into a solid tight end for the team. Herndon IV is a big target that can go up and high point the football. Look for Herndon IV to break out into a great redzone target for Wilson this 2021.

1. Defensive lineman Quinnen Williams

Quinnen Williams is a special player who has shown his ability to be a game wrecker. Williams hasn't been great over his first few seasons, but part of that is due to the scheme that the previous coaching regime. With a defensive minded coach in Saleh, Williams will have great coaching which could take his game to the next level.

Saleh's scheme should allow Williams more freedom and he could become a top-tier defensive lineman. Saleh has shown the ability to get the best out of his pass rushers and that was shown in his time with the 49ers. Be prepared for Williams to take a big jump this season and become an elite player.

With new coaching and young talent, the Jets are in a prime position to get better. Although they may not make the playoffs this year they are ready for the future.
