The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off of a 2018 campaign in which they won nine games and snuck into the playoffs during the last week of the season. They then went on to defeat the Chicago Bears in the Wild Card Round before falling to the New Orleans Saints in the Divisional Round.

Now, the Eagles, two years removed from a Super Bowl, are entering a 2019 campaign full of hope thanks to an offense loaded with pieces and a healthy Carson Wentz.

Still, there are some question marks surrounding Philadelphia entering this season, so even though the Eagles may look really good on paper, there is no guarantee that they will be a playoff team.

Here are three things that need to happen for Philly to make a third straight postseason appearance.

3. DeSean Jackson Needs to Find the Fountain of Youth

The Eagles brought back DeSean Jackson this offseason, a move that should at least give them one of the league's deepest receiving corps with Jackson, Alshon Jeffery, Nelson Agholor, and rookie JJ Arcega-Whiteside.

DeSean Jackson

But this is not the same Jackson from his first stint with the Eagles.

Jackson has only logged one 1,000-yard campaign over the last four seasons, and he has also not played a full 16-game campaign since his last year with Philadelphia in 2013.

No one is saying Jackson needs to be a Pro Bowler, but he does need to be better than the 41 catches he totaled this past season.

To be fair to Jackson, he was playing in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense, so maybe he will be more productive with the Eagles, but Philly is certainly expecting him to be a top target.

2. They Need to Win the Turnover Battle

The Eagles ranked just 25th in the NFL in turnover differential at a minus-6 this past season, a big reason why they won just nine games.

Carson Wentz

It's not like Philadelphia was a turnover machine, as it gave the ball away 23 times on the year, but it could not make that up with takeaways, with the Eagles netting only 17 takeaways on the season.

Part of that is the defense needing to be more opportunistic. Another part of that does fall on the offense being a bit too carefree with the football.

Either way, you are going to have a difficult time making the playoffs if you keep losing the turnover battle. The Birds were able to sneak in this past year, but that spoke more of how poor the rest of the NFC was than how good the Eagles were.

If they do that again in 2019, I can tell you right now they probably aren't making it back to the postseason, as they were the only team with a negative differential to make the playoffs in 2018.

1. Carson Wentz Has to Stay Healthy

This has been a problem for Wentz each of the last two years. In 2017, he went down with a torn ACL. In 2018, he was knocked out due to back issues.

Doug Pederson

The difference is that if Wentz goes down this time, he no longer has Nick Foles in reserve.

The Eagles allowed Foles to walk this offseason solely because of Wentz, as Philadelphia would prefer to put its faith in the younger, more talented quarterback going forward, as expected.

However, Wentz has only had one healthy season thus far in his career, which is a bit concerning.

Make no mistake: Wentz has to avoid injury this year if Philly wants to make another playoff run. There won't be a Nick Foles to save the Eagles again if he doesn't.
