The San Francisco 49ers took a massive hit last week when they lost starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo for the season to a torn ACL. It was a big hit, but the 49ers remained confident that they could compete with the rest of the NFL. Unfortunately, the 49ers are not done with injuries and lost two more key players this week in their matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers.

According to a report from Pro Football Talk, the 49ers lost both wide receiver Dante Pettis and offensive lineman Joe Staley to knee injuries against the Chargers.

There have been no concrete reports about the severity of either injury. Both players are key pieces for the 49ers both now, as well as in the future.

San Francisco ended up losing the game by a final score of 29-27. It was a much better performance for the 49ers than many were expecting with backup quarterback C.J. Beathard starting.

Pettis was the 49ers' No. 44 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. He made a lot of heads turn in training camp and preseason action, but had only caught three passes for 96 yards and a touchdown so far.

Staley, on the other hand, is one of the faces of the 49ers' franchise. Even though he's an offensive lineman, he has had a massive impact on San Francisco. He has played all 12 of his NFL seasons with the 49ers.

Ideally, neither injury will end up being too serious. Pettis is a young receiver that needs this season to develop and improve his game. Staley is a veteran who is playing in the final stages of his career and an injury could really hurt his chances to remain an elite lineman.

Expect to hear more news about these injuries within the next 24 hours and we will make sure to have those updates for you.
