San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Dee Ford is expected to make his return when the 49ers take on the Minnesota Vikings in the Divisional Round of the playoffs next Saturday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Ford has been sidelined since Week 15 due to a hamstring injury, and injury he sustained during San Francisco's Week 11 win over the Arizona Cardinals. He returned in Week 14, but re-aggravated the issue.

In the 11 games that he played this season, Ford logged 14 tackles, 6.5 sacks and a couple of forced fumbles.

The 28-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Auburn, was originally selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round (23rd pick overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft.

He appeared in every contest during his rookie campaign but had a very limited role, finishing with eight tackles and 1.5 sacks. He received more playing time the following year, totaling 23 tackles and four sacks, and in 2013, Ford broke out, registering 38 tackles and 10 sacks.

Injuries then limited Ford to just six games in 2017, and during the time he was on the field, he posted just 13 tackles and a pair of sacks before having the best year of his career in 2018, racking up 55 tackles, 13 sacks and seven forced fumbles, en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

The Chiefs then proceeded to trade Ford to the Niners for a second-round draft pick last March.

San Francisco was one of the NFL's most pleasant surprises in 2019, going 13-3 to win the NFC West division title while also nailing down the No. 1 overall seed in the conference.
