The San Francisco 49ers and star defensive lineman DeForest Buckner are still not close on coming to an agreement on a long-term deal, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Rapoport notes that talks have occurred over the last few days, but no deal is in sight. The 49ers exercised Buckner's fifth-year option last week. He will earn $720,000 this coming season and is set to make $12.378 million in 2020.

Buckner is coming off of a terrific 2018 campaign in which he played all 16 games and racked up 67 tackles, 12 sacks and a fumble recovery en route to his first Pro Bowl appearance.

The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Oregon, was originally selected by San Francisco with the seventh overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He appeared in 15 contests during his rookie year, finishing with an impressive 73 tackles, six sacks and a couple of fumble recoveries. Then, the following season, Buckner participated in all 16 games and totaled 61 stops, three sacks, a forced fumble and five passes defended.

The 49ers won just four games this past season and finished in third place in the NFC West division. They have not made the playoffs since the 2013-14 campaign when they made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game.

Over a three-year stretch between the 2011-12 and 2013-14 seasons, the 49ers made it to three straight NFC Title Games, including the 2012-13 campaign when they advanced to the Super Bowl but fell to the Baltimore Ravens.

That short run have represented the Niners' only three playoff appearances since 2003.
