The San Francisco 49ers seem to have found a new quarterbacks coach. According to a Sunday evening report from Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, the 49ers will be hiring Shane Day to take over as the franchise’s quarterbacks coach. It is also worth noting that Day will be replacing Rich Scangarello, who was notably added to first-year head coach Vic Fangio’s staff as the Denver Broncos' new offensive coordinator.

Although the 49ers finished toward the bottom of the league in 2018-19, due mostly to a slew of injuries that ravaged the team's roster, San Francisco does already have their quarterback of the future in-house with former New England Patriots signal caller Jimmy Garoppolo, who was one of the victims of the team's injury bug, under center. Garoppolo notably missed the majority of the year due to a torn ACL.

This is actually not going to be Day’s first go-round with the 49ers organization. He previously served as the team’s offensive quality control coach between 2007 and 2009. He assisted the quarterbacks in 2007, the running backs in 2008 and finally the 49ers offensive line for the 2009 campaign.

Additionally, Day spent the last three seasons as the Miami Dolphins tight ends coach while also serving as the Washington Redskins offensive line coach along the way. Spending time as a quarterbacks coach as well, Day served in such a role for both the Chicago Bears and University of Connecticut Huskies between 2010 and 2013.

It is also worth noting that the 49ers have yet to announce the hiring of Day.
