When it comes to the San Francisco 49ers and their quarterback situation, most eyes are on Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance. However, there's also a battle going on between Josh Rosen and Nate Sudfeld for the No. 3 spot.

Apparently, things aren't going too well for Rosen. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan recently talked about Rosen's play, and it wasn't pretty.

Via Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle:

“I think he started off real well,” Shanahan said, “and I think he’s taken a couple steps back the last few practices.”

The 49ers coach specifically addressed an ugly interception Rosen threw in practice:

“It was unfortunate on that,” Shanahan said. “We were supposed to go to someone and we had a busted route. So it then kind of fell apart and he tried to overcompensate. And he made a bad situation worse.”

It has been a rough start to Josh Rosen's NFL career. After going 10th overall to the Arizona Cardinals in the 2018 NFL Draft, he has bounced around the league. Rosen was traded to the Miami Dolphins after the Cardinals drafted Kyler Murray first overall in 2019 and was named Ryan Fitzpatrick's backup. The Dolphins then drafted Tua Tagovailoa fifth overall in 2020, resulting in Rosen's eventual release.

Rosen joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' practice squad in 2020 and was then signed by the 49ers off the practice squad. He didn't see any action in 2020 but still got a one-year deal to return to San Francisco to fight for a roster spot.

If Rosen isn't able to make the cut for the 49ers, one has to wonder if his NFL career is doomed. He entered the league with a lot of talent out of UCLA, but he has been bad when he has played and can't secure a gig. Maybe he just doesn't have it.
