The San Francisco 49ers were dealt another crucial hit ahead of their Week 9 matchup against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night. 49ers wide receiver Kendrick Bourne has tested positive for COVID-19, according to ESPN‘s Adam Schefter.

Schefter also adds that the 49ers have shut down their facility just a day before their matchup against the Packers. The 49ers released this statement on the matter:

Through eight games played this season, the Eastern Washington product has 352 receiving yards on 25 receptions along with one touchdown.

San Francisco has not had a player on the reserve/COVID-19 list since Sept. 9. That's when linebacker Fred Warner was cleared just four days before the team’s opener against the Arizona Cardinals. Warner remained on the COVID-19 list for a span of 10 days.

Prior to the start of the season, 49ers wideout Richie James went on the list July 27 and was activated on Aug. 4, while running back Jeff Wilson went on the list July 30 and was cleared on Aug. 4, as well.

The Packers are also dealing with their own coronavirus issues. A.J. Dillon recently had a positive test result. Fellow running back Jamaal Williams will also be ruled out against the 49ers after being identified as a close contact.

The 49ers currently hold a 4-4 record this season, which is last in the ultra-competitive NFC West. Health has been a major factor for the defending NFC champs, with Jimmy Garoppolo and George Kittle just the latest big names to suffer long-term injuries for the franchise. It has truly been a nightmare campaign on the injury front.
