After an impressive win in the first start of his career, there was a lot of talk about San Francisco 49ers quarterback Nick Mullens and if he should start the rest of the year.

Over the last few weeks, Mullens has fallen back a bit and after 27-9 defeat at the hands of Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kyle Shanahan has made it clear he is not happy with his quarterback's play.

In an interview with SFGate.com, Shanahan opened up about his thoughts on his team's passing game against Tampa Bay.

“I don’t think he played very well, just looking at some of our situations, but that wasn’t all on him. No one played very well, especially in the passing game.”

Mullens threw for 221 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. He also couldn't seem to stay upright, being sacked four times.

CJ Beathard was the starter before being injured and the job was turned over to Mullens due to his injury. After the game, Shanahan was asked if they would be reevaluating their quarterback position and Shanahan left the door open for Beathard.

“I evaluate it every week, honestly. There’s no difference with that and I’ll continue to do that with every position on our team for the next five weeks.”

When Jimmy Garoppolo tore his ACL during Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs, the 49ers knew they were going to be trouble and that is exactly how the season has turned out.

The 49ers are sitting with a 2-9 record, which is tied for the worst in the NFL. Maybe starting the worse quarterback wouldn't be a bad option in an attempt to try to get a higher draft pick.
