The San Francisco 49ers took the field in their preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs with one of their offseason acquisitions taking the field for the first time. On Saturday night, linebacker Kwon Alexander said that getting back on the field was ‘legendary'.

Earlier in the offseason, San Francisco signed Alexander to a massive contract worth $54 million over the next four years. Alexander is coming off of a torn ACL in 2018 that caused him to miss the final 10 games of the season.

Therefore, it is understandable that the athletic linebacker is ecstatic to return to playing football again. All eyes were on Jimmy Garoppolo but fans were also excited to see Alexander make his debut. In the 49ers third preseason contest, Alexander was able to tally two tackles in his debut for the franchise.

Before joining the 49ers, Alexander was a stalwart for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Over his four seasons with Tampa Bay, Alexander combined for 380 tackles, 31 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and six interceptions.

For the 49ers, Alexander joins Fred Warner and veteran Malcolm Smith as the starting linebackers on the roster. San Francisco is hoping for a leap forward for their entire defense this season. In 2018, the 49ers ranked as the 13th best defense in the NFL in total defense.

Aside from Alexander, the team added Dee Ford via trade and selected Nick Bosa with the No. 2 pick in this year's draft. The potential for their defense is through the roof but the talent is undeniably there with Alexander and others.
