Datone Jones entered the National Football League with plenty of hype in 2013. Fast-forward a few years, and now the former first round draft pick has been waived by his third different team in a single season. This time, the San Francisco 49ers unceremoniously dumped the defensive player.

For those unaware, Datone Jones was the 26th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. He was a member of the Green Bay Packers from 2013-16. After that, only short stints with the Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Lions and 49ers awaited the former UCLA Bruins standout.

Jones has played in over 70 games in the NFL, but only has 9 sacks under his belt.

The Niners sending Jones the way of the dinosaurs comes a day after the 49ers claimed Sheldon Day off of waivers. They’re also on track to get Tank Carradine back from injured reserve as another piece on the defensive line. This could be a large reason why the franchise decided to show him the door.

We can make jokes about if Jones is an actual bust if we want. At the same time, it is actually the team that drafted him that did a poor job. What was he supposed to say when he was selected in the draft? It isn't like he should have said, “No, guys. I am not that good of a player and you shouldn't give me first round money.”

Here is to hoping that his career is not over. At the same time, given how many teams have quickly given up on him, it just might be.
