The San Francisco 49ers selected Javon Kinlaw with the No. 14 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft after trading back one spot to get him. Despite him not knowing much about him before the draft, Nick Bosa believes Kinlaw is the perfect replacement for DeForest Buckner.

“I didn’t watch too much of South Carolina until obviously I started hearing that he might be a pick for us, and then I started to watch some of him,” Bosa said. “He just embodies what we do as a D-line … He’s just a beast. He plays the run like we play it. He gets off the ball really fast and is just a giant human, perfect to replace Buckner, and I’m really excited.”

Earlier this offseason, the 49ers traded Buckner to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for the No. 13 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. While they lost a key contributor on their defensive line, San Francisco was able to replace him with Kinlaw.

Kinlaw, a three-year starter at South Carolina, was able to record six sacks and six tackles for loss in 2019. His ability to play the run and create pressure against the pass makes him a valuable player for the 49ers.

Of course, San Francisco already boasts a talented defensive front with Bosa, Dee Ford, and Arik Armstead. Instead of keeping Buckner, the 49ers decided to sign Armstead to a multi-year contract, showing their confidence in Armstead.

Even though they traded back one spot to get him, the 49ers always had their sights on Kinlaw in the first round. It's safe to say that Bosa, the team's No. 2 pick a year ago, was a fan of the selection of Kinlaw.
