The San Francisco 49ers saw it’s secondary get another hit during last Sunday’s 39-10 blowout loss to the Los Angeles Rams in which safety Adrian Colbert was carted out of the contest due to a leg injury. Colbert is going to be out for a while, as he’s been placed by the team on the injured reserve, per Nick Wagner of ESPN.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that Colbert is going to be sidelined up from six to eight weeks. While that means there’s a chance that the seventh-round pick in last year’s NFL Draft can still come back later this season, Shanahan also told reporters that Colbert is “probably not” going to make a return at least during the 2018 NFL season.

Colbert hurt his leg during the third quarter of the Rams game while he was trying to disrupt a Jared Goff pass to Brandin Cooks.

To cover the spot left by Adrian Colbert on the 49ers’ 53-man active roster, the team has re-signed quarterback Tom Savage to act as backup to starting signal-caller of starter C.J. Beathard.

As for Colbert’s replacement on the starting lineup, Shanahan is expected to call on rookie D.J. Reed to fill in the role.

The 1-6 49ers will take on the Arizona Cardinals on the road this coming Sunday.
