The San Francisco 49ers were one of the most hyped up teams coming into the 2018 NFL season. After years of struggling, there was a new quarterback in town. Jimmy Garoppolo's impressive showing last season after being traded to the 49ers by the New England Patriots was enough to make the media call San Francisco a major sleeper team to keep an eye on.

Unfortunately, those predictions were derailed early on this season. Garoppolo went down with a season-ending torn ACL and the 49ers immediately became a team that was going to end up with a good draft pick.

Richard Sherman opened up on his feeling about the 49ers' new franchise quarterback. In an interview with Pro Football Talk, Sherman said that he loves Garoppolo, but that the team needs their quarterback to stay healthy and on the field. He also opened up about all of the injuries that the 49ers have been through.

“It’s been more difficult with the injuries we’ve had. Everybody knows how difficult it is to win without an elite quarterback in this league, or at least the guy you start the year with. We had a great quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo, and obviously C.J. Beathard came in there and played admirably, but we’ve just had a lot of injuries. . . . Nick Mullens is in there playing great football but he’s our third quarterback.”

Sherman also made it clear that he wants to stay in San Francisco and continue to grow with his teammates.

“I definitely hope to stay here and grow with this team. I’m as disappointed as the fans and everybody else with how the season has gone this year but sometimes you have to go through these growing pains and this adversity to get to where you need to go.”

In the three game that he was able to participate in this season with the 49ers, Garoppolo completed 59.6 percent of his pass attempts for 718 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions.

San Francisco has the roster to compete in the NFC next season if they can stay healthy. Garoppolo is a talented quarterback and will get his career back on track in 2019.
