The Seattle Seahawks-San Francisco 49ers game got off to a harrowing start. The game was paused after the opening kickoff when 49ers special teams ace Trenton Cannon went down with an extremely serious head injury. An ambulance was called onto the field and Cannon was placed onto a stretcher and exited the game.

Cannon was down on the field for several minutes while medical staff rushed to his aid. The injury occurred on the opening kickoff, during which Cannon's head was hit twice and he went down awkwardly to the ground.

Players from both teams were taking a knee as they watched in concern for their injured comrade, in what was a horrifying sight so early on in the game. Many people and organizations from around the league sent their well wishes to the 27-year-old.

Fortunately, Cannon was reportedly seen giving a thumbs up and showing signs of movement before exiting the field, which is a blessing for both him and the 49ers.

Cannon has been a mainstay in San Francisco's special teams unit this season. After starting the year with the Ravens, Cannon latched on with the 49ers and has featured in no less than 50% of the team's special team snaps since. Cannon was a sixth-round pick in by the New York Jets in the 2018 NFL draft, coming out of Virginia State, nearby his native Hampton, VA. He has one touchdown in his NFL career and has featured in a total of 45 games.

We're hoping for some positive news in terms of his status and our thoughts go out to Cannon and his family.
