Even though Jaylon Ferguson wasn't able to attend the NFL Combine to show off his skills, there were still five teams who sent their defensive line coaches to attend his Pro Day at Louisiana Tech. According to Gil Brandt, he opened a lot of eyes with his showing:

Ferguson ran a 4.82 40-yard dash and also racked up 24 reps on the bench press. With the showing, it's expected he will climb up draft boards.

Ferguson is the NCAA's all-time sack leader but was uninvited to the combine after a background check turned up a simple battery charge after a fight at a McDonald's as a freshman. According to NFL rules, if a player has a misdemeanor on his record involving violence, he isn't allowed to attend the combine. One scout who was at the Pro Day doesn't think that the charge will hurt his draft stock because it happened a few years ago, and he seems to have moved past it:

“I don’t think so at all,” one scout said, per the The News Star. “I think everybody knew, I don’t think anybody questions what this kid’s all about, what his past is. The league has their rules, do they do what they feel is best. Every team will do their own work and come up with a pretty similar answer which is going to check out. I’m pretty sure across the board, he’s going to be alright.”

“I think he helped himself. He hadn’t done anything at the combine, so he had a clean slate to work from,” another scout said. “I thought he performed well. I think when you talk to the kid, you get a good feel for him in terms his personality, he can communicate, he’s sharp, witty. He seems like a good kid.”

Right now, the expectation is that Jaylon Ferguson will be a first- or second-round pick.
