Alex Garland's new movie, Civil War, does not have a runtime of 3 hours and 15 minutes.

IMDb incorrectly labeled this lengthy runtime when it's under two hours at 109 minutes, Variety reports.

A24's Civil War runtime revealed

The new movie by the Oscar-nominated Garland has a stellar cast that includes Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Sonoya Mizuno, Jesse Plemons, and Nick Offerman.

It has a trailer out, including massive destruction and the news of 19 successful states. The logline reads, “A race to the White House in a near-future America balanced on the razor's edge.”

The preview goes on to say, “Citizens of America, the so-called Western forces of Texas and California have suffered a very great defeat at the hands of the United States military.”

A24 produces the new movie with Gregory Goodman and DNA's Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich. This is another collaboration for DNA and Garland, for they worked together on the films Ex Machina, Annihilation, and Men, Variety states.

Having a movie with a long runtime is risky. After all, sitting in a theater for over three hours is not always easy. Plus, with the short attention span of people who are used to little video clips on TikTok and YouTube, a long movie better be spectacular to hold the attention span of a regular moviegoer.

A few successful movies that have recently been released include Oppenheimer and Avatar: The Way of the Water — each over three hours long. Babylon and Beau is Afraid both didn't land well and had long runtimes.

Hopefully, A24's Civil War will hit a sweet spot with its length. People who can't sit for long periods are surely thrilled.
