AC Milan star Zlatan Ibrahimovic faces an uncertain future in football after undergoing ACL surgery on Wednesday. With his contract set to expire at the San Siro, he could be forced to retire if his knee doesn't heal at the proper rate.

Zlatan revealed on Thursday that he was literally playing without an ACL across the last six months and barely slept because of the excruciating pain that he was constantly dealing with.

Via The Athletic:

“For the past six months I played without an ACL in my left knee.

“Swollen knee for six months. I was only able to train with the team 10 times in the last six months.

“Took more than 20 injections in six months. Emptied the knee once a week for six months.

“Painkillers every day for six months. Barely slept for six months because of the pain.”

Zlatan still managed to help Milan win the Scudetto over the weekend, scoring eight goals in 23 Serie A appearances in 2021-22. His body is clearly beaten up, having dealt with numerous other injuries throughout a terrific career with some of the top clubs in Europe. It would be great to see Zlatan Ibrahimovic play again but if not, he will go down as one of the most prolific strikers to ever step on the pitch.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
