The Clemson Tigers have had another rough season under head coach Brad Brownell. College basketball odds experts are quite aware that for the balance of Brownell’s tenure at Clemson, the Tigers have had problems protecting late-game leads. Clemson has lost several games this season after holding moderate to big leads, including a massive blown lead at home against Boston College, easily the worst loss of the season for the Tigers. Their ACC Tournament odds are small because they don’t hold up well under pressure. Clemson is looking at an offseason in which Brownell’s job status will be a point of discussion. He might not get fired, but Clemson lost athletic director Dan Radakovich to Miami a few months ago when the Hurricanes hired him for the same post and also brought aboard Mario Cristobal as head football coach. Radakovich was squarely in Brownell’s corner and showed admirable patience with him. The new Clemson athletic director might not have the same view, so we’ll have to wait and see. The cloud of uncertainty hanging over Clemson hoops is one thing to keep in mind when making a Clemson Virginia Tech prediction.
Virginia Tech has had a difficult but inspiring season under head coach Mike Young. Virginia Tech crushed Saint Bonaventure in nonconference play and held out hope that it could make a run at the NCAA Tournament. Yet, the Hokies stumbled to a 2-7 record in the first nine games of their ACC season. Some bad luck (Miami hitting a half-court shot to win at the buzzer) and some injuries mixed with deficient responses in crunch-time moments combined to punish the Hokies.
Yet, if that 2-7 ACC record seemed like a final verdict or measurement for the Hokies’ season, they didn’t allow that to be the last word. They responded by finishing with a winning record in the 20-game ACC schedule, becoming the first team to be 2-7 in the league and yet finish above .500 in the ACC standings. That shows how much the players trust Mike Young. Virginia Tech has a bright future, but this season will almost certainly fall short of the NCAA Tournament. The Hokies need to make the ACC Tournament final to have any chance at an at-large bid. That means they have to win three times. Keep that in mind when making a Clemson Virginia Tech pick.

Why Clemson Could Cover the Spread
The Tigers beat North Carolina State on Tuesday and have momentum and rhythm coming into this game in Brooklyn, whereas Virginia Tech is playing its first game at this tournament and could be sluggish.
Why Virginia Tech Could Cover the Spread
The Hokies lost to Clemson on the road this past Saturday. The idea that they will be outplayed twice by Clemson in five days is not something you should expect or trust.
Final Clemson-Virginia Tech Prediction & Pick
Virginia Tech isn’t a great team, but it is a decent team, and it won’t lose twice to Clemson in less than a week. The Hokies will make adjustments and play a sharper game than what they offered on Saturday.
Final Clemson-Virginia Tech Pick: Virginia Tech -5
