Ouch! Iconic actor Steve Buscemi was attacked in New York City by a random person.
Buscemi, who has starred in Fargo, Boardwalk Empire, and other classic films and series' was walking through Kips Bay when he was struck in broad daylight, the NY Post reports.
Luckily, the actor seems to be okay. He has some swelling to his face and left eye and went for treatment at Bellevue Hospital—still, an unpleasant experience, for sure.
As for the thug that did this to him, he took off and was not found. However, the NYPD put out a surveillance photo of the man who allegedly attacked Steve.
About Steve Buscemi's NYC attack
A statement from Buscemi's publicist said, “Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Mid-Town Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city.”
“He is okay and appreciates everyone's well wishes, though incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened to while also walking the streets of New York,” the publicist added.
A worker who witnessed the attack said, “I saw he was with a woman, and then through the corner of the window I saw him trip and fall backwards. He right away got up and ran in the opposite direction. I didn't see who hit him.”
It's unfortunate that this happened where it did, considering his close ties to the city. At one point, he was an FDNY firefighter and was a native New Yorker. He was one of the brave firefighters who rushed to the World Trade Center after the 9/11 attacks.
Buscemi isn't the only actor who gets randomly attacked in New York.
Michael Stuhbarg, who also starred in Boardwalk Empire as Arnold Rothstein, was struck in the back of the neck with a rock on March 31. Meanwhile, Rick Moranis and Bethenny Frankel were also assaulted in the city.
It's not just actors, either. More women are being attacked in NYC, CBS News reported several weeks ago.
“It was like a zombie walking and just punched me and just kept walking, out of nowhere,” Eliana Benigar said of a recent incident. She is one of dozens of women sharing their stories online.
Meanwhile, the actor is still working harder than ever. He'll join Jenna Ortega regularly in Wednesday Season 2. New regulars also will include Billie Piper, Evis Templeton, Owen Painter, Noah Taylor, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonex, and Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, IndieWire reports.
Wednesday was the most popular English TV series on Netflix. It had 252.10 million views for its debut season about the Addams Famly teenage daughter enrolled at Nevermore Academy.
Luckily, Steve Buscemi is okay and can hopefully move on from this. And let's hope these unprovoked attacks end soon in the Big Apple.
