Like many others, film producer Jerry Bruckheimer has a lot of love for Bruce Willis.

PEOPLE recently interviewed Bruckheimer about several things, including Willis and his role in the 1998 blockbuster Armageddon.

The film, produced by Bruckheimer, starred Willis as Harry S. Stamper and also included Billy Bob Thornton, Liv Tyler, Ben Affleck, Will Patton, and Steve Buscemi. It was about a giant asteroid approaching Earth that could wipe out mankind's existence. Oil driller Stamper agreed to help on a mission into space to drill a deep hole in the asteroid and put a nuclear bomb inside to destroy it — saving the world.

Reflecting on the set, the producer had nothing but good things to say about working with the action star.

“Bruce is such a good guy,” Bruckheimer said. “He was so generous to the crew.”

One thing the crew did every week was have a giveaway. Bruce was responsible for adding a lot of cash to the pot.

“They'd have drawings, and he'd throw a lot of money in the hat, and the crew members would always take away some nice extra cash at the end of the week, whoever won,” he added.

About Bruce Willis's FTD diagnosis

69-year-old Willis was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2023. It's also known as FTD, which affects the ability to communicate. Initially, he was diagnosed with aphasia. Due to his condition, he retired from acting a year earlier.

In February of 2023, his family released a statement about his health.

“While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis,” read the statement by his wife Emma Heming Willis, ex-wife Demi Moore, and his children Rumer, Scout, Tallulah, Mabel, and Evelyn. “FTD is a cruel disease that many of us have never heard of and can strike anyone.”

It continues, “For people under 60, FTD is the most common form of dementia, and because getting the diagnosis can take years, FTD is likely much more prevalent than we know. Today there are no treatments for the disease, a reality that we hope can change in the years ahead. As Bruce's condition advances, we hope that any media attention can be focused on shining a light on this disease that needs far more awareness and research.”

It concluded with, “Bruce has always found joy in life — and has helped everyone he knows to do the same. It has meant the world to see that sense of care echoed back to him and to all of us. We have been so moved by the love you have all shared for our dear husband, father, and friend during this difficult time. Your continued compassion, understanding, and respect will enable us to help Bruce live as full a life as possible.”

Bruckheimer's words match his family's sentiments about how giving the actor is.

As for what the producer is up to, he has some big films on the way. This includes Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, and Young Woman and the Sea.

It's great to hear Jerry Bruckheimer reflect on his pal Bruce Willis, whom we wish all the best as he continues to live with FTD.
