Adventure Time is getting a movie. But that’s not all. Two new series are heading our way, too.

This news came out during a focus panel at the Annecy Animation Festival. Variety reported that Cartoon Network Studios is cranking out a new series and a movie based on the popular animated show.

This is still in early development, so few details about the anticipated film are known. However, some of the animation people making the project come to life include Rebecca Sugar (Steven Universe), Patrick McHale (Over the Garden Wall co-creator), and Adam Muto, the Adventure Time showrunner.

Adventure Time: Side Quest is a kids’ series already greenlit. It will explore the world when Finn was a child with Jake the Dog as they dream of bigger adventures. This new series will feature stand-alone episodes. Additionally, it will have well-known characters from the show, such as The Ice King.

Beyond that, get ready for Adventure Time: Heyo BMO. This one is aimed at an even younger preschool audience. It features an adorable video console, BMO, which is bound to be a hit with kids. The new show’s premise is centered around BMO and a group of friends who settle into a new neighborhood and face a series of challenges.

About Adventure Time

The new movie and series’ are an exciting development for an already popular IP.

If you’re new to Adventure Time, the series is about a boy named Finn (Jeremy Shada) and his best friend Jake (John DiMaggio), a dog with the power to shapeshift on will. They live in the Land of Ooo, where a cast of characters, including Princess Bubblegum, the Ice King, Marceline, BMO, and others, set them on a series of quests.

Pendleton Ward, the creator of Adventure Time, discussed the series with Forbes in 2011, illuminating why it is so popular today. When asked what audience he writes for: kids or adults — he mentions how it’s done.

Ward said, “Both, but primarily, we write the show to entertain ourselves. Sometimes, I recognize a joke that reminds me of something that I would’ve busted up at as a kid. I’m happy when I see those kinds of jokes. Because the show is for kids more than anyone else, but most of the time we (the writers and storyboard artists) are just trying to crack ourselves up and trying not to worry about much other than that.”

Regarding the unique look of the series, he said, “My influences are my friends. I’ve always tried to draw like Pat McHale (writer on the series) and Somvilay Xayaphone (storyboard artist and writer on the show). These are dudes who influenced my drawing styles from while we were in school together.”

There are no details on when the Adventure Time movie and series will be released. But what an adventure we have ahead, knowing they’re on the way.
