As the biggest Pay-Per-View of the summer, Forbidden Door, rapidly approaches, fans of AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling are frantically fantasy booking their dream matches. Could we finally see FTR versus Aussie Open? Or how about Will Ospreay wrestle someone like Miro, Wardlow, or Orange Cassidy? Will G.OD. make their AEW debut versus the Lucha Brothers, or will they instead go after a tag team like the Jurassic Express for the AEW tag team titles?

With much of the card still up in the air, as even the more or less announced matches have qualifying stipulations that need to be addressed, there's little reason to believe the event won't be jam-packed with exciting exhibitions for fans of professional wrestling.

But hey, just because the co-promotional event presents an opportunity for a ton of fun new matches doesn't mean Tony Khan and Gedo can't build on existing feuds and continue some long-term storylines too, as there are some very deep-seated former NJPW feuds that could be rekindled at Forbidden Door and continue on into the future.

Forbidden Door could rekindle these three feuds.

3. Suzuki-Gun vs. Los Ingobernables de Japon

Before he was an upper-middlecard singles performer as a member of AEW, Lance Archer was a premier performer in New Japan both as a member of the Killer Elite Squad tag team and as part of the larger faction Suzuki-Gun, which also featured the likes of Zack Sabre Jr., El Desperado, and its titular leader, Minoru Suzuki.

Now, if the name Suzuki-Gun sounds familiar, it's probably because Archer and Suzuki teamed under the banner in AEW in a September bout against Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston. While a reunion match between the duo would be entertaining indeed, as Suzuki and Mox are a must-watch match any day of the week, Suzuki-Gun's is currently feuding with Tetsuya Naito's faction Los Ingobernables de Japon in NJPW and that faction just so happens to have a representative in AEW by the name of Rush, aka Andrade el Idolo's new partner.

If Tony Khan wants to field a furious, hard-hitting match in the middle of the Forbidden Door card – and allow a sold-out Chicago crowd to shout “Kaze ni Nare” at the top of their lungs – doing a trios match of Naito, Rush, and Andrade versus Suzuki, Archer, and a debuting Davey Boy Smith Jr., who was the other member of K.E.S. and has drawn interest from AEW in the past, could be a fantastic way to shake things up.

2. Chris Jericho vs Tetsuya Naito

When it comes to AEW, there is one certainty: There will always be a Chris Jericho angle.

Of course, for Forbidden Door, having “The Wizard” involved makes all the sense in the world, as his reinvention as “The Painmaker” in NJPW was fantastic, and his feud with Kenny Omega was legendary – not to mention that it may or may not have been the catalyst for AEW in the first-place.

Well, for numerous reasons, Jericho’s feud with Omega will not be reignited at Forbidden Door, nor will he face off against his final opponent during his New Japan run, Hiroshi Tanahashi, as he will most likely be competing for the Interim AEW Championship.

Therefore, why not revisit Jericho’s other noteworthy feud as “The Painmaker” and have him face off against Tetsuya Naito; assuming he isn't wrestling Suzuki-Gun, of course.

These wrestlers are currently 1-1 in singles competition, with both matches resulting in IWGP Intercontinental Title changes, so a rubber match between the two certainly seems to be in order. While Jericho is currently on his Jericho Appreciation Society schtick, he has shown in the past that he is not afraid to bring back old gimmicks for the sake of the match at hand – see his return as “The Painmaker” against Nick Gage. Even though the title they fought for is now inactive, the match would still be a worthwhile watch.

1. Jay White vs. Kenny Omega

The status of Kenny Omega is up in the air as of the time of this writing.

When will he be back from his recovery? Will he come back as a member of the Undisputed Elite, or as their enemy in one way or another? What we do know is that “The Switchblade” usurped Omega as the leader of Bullet Club and is currently aligned with Adam Cole and company.

If Omega is healthy enough to be a late-entrant at Forbidden Door, it could be an amazing opportunity for “The Best Bout Machine” to again take on “The Switchblade”.

Omega has made it clear that he wants to face off against this new Jay White, and while it feels like a long time ago, Omega and White had some tense interactions in Impact Wrestling last year, though it would again appear that White has since smoothed things over with everyone else in The Elite. Whether or not their respective factions are aligned, it is very clear that there is heat between the two wrestlers and a sense of unfinished business.

Perhaps Omega wants to face White before he can work with him and Bullet Club? Or maybe “The Cleaner” wants to finally put him in his place, so that White can never again declare that their last match ended in Omega’s defeat?

Regardless of whether the various factors at play work out and Omega can return to the ring in time for Forbidden Door, this is one feud that is bound to explode sooner or later. One can only hope that AEW x NJPW continue to have a fruitful and collaborative relationship, as there are far too many storylines and loose ends for them to cover in a single night of action.
