Heading into AEW Dynamite in Orlando, Florida, no one wanted to win the Gold League and punch his ticket to Worlds End more than Swerve Strickland.

He had a bone to pick with Jon Moxley, a win over “Switchblade” Jay White, and a burning desire to prove he's one of the top wrestlers in the world by putting not one, not two, but three belts around his waist on the way to becoming the first-ever modern day Triple Crown Champion of AEW, Ring of Honor, and New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Unfortunately for Swerve, he came up short, as White was pinned by Moxley on his way to a one-way ticket to Worlds End, but fortunately for fans of professional wrestling, it looks like Strickland won't be without a match on Long Island, as he called upon an opponent from the past to set up something great for the not-too-distant future.

“Jon Moxley moves on? You don't even give me time to rest? I can't even have time to gather my thoughts? To cool off? I don't get a towl or nothing? My arm is falling off of my body right now because of thsoe two men. I wanted it so bad, Tony, you know that, this man knows that. AEW, the rest of the fanbase, they know that. So freakin' bad,” Swerve Strickland declared.

“When I said this Continental Classic was breathing life, and enjection into the wrestling business, the entire business, not just AEW. I meant that s**t. I swear to god that I wanted it. I wanted to prove that I'm one of the best in the industry if not the best. I didn't get pinned, Jay White got pinned. Matter of fact, let's go over to someone over there on Collision, someone who is ‘building houses with bricks?' Somebody's looking for me, huh? Keith Lee, yeah! You said I'm ‘Him?' I'm that ‘Him?' That's the first thing we've agreed about for over a year now. You want me? Well guess what? I don't got nothing to do on Long Island December 30th, so I'll be there.”

Whoa, Strickland versus “Limitless” Keith Lee at Worlds End? While the build-up could have been better, that is one heck of a consolation prize for both Swerve and the AEW Galaxy, as when those two get in the ring, magic happens.

Swerve Strickland names a wrestler he'd like to wrestle post-C2.

Before taking the ring against “Switchblade” Jay White and Jon Moxley for the finals of the Gold League of the Continental Classic, Swerve Strickland made a special appearance on ROAR Around the Ring to help promote AEW Dynamite, Worlds End, and his own personal brand and it be known just how important the match meant to his career.

“It shows where I'm at as far as the standing in the company. It shows where I'm at as far as where the fans see me. It doesn't look off-putting, it doesn't look like I'm being forced to be in that position where I'm not ready to. No, I've been ready for that,” Swerve Strickland told ROAR Around the Ring via Fightful.

“Now, the fact that I have one victory over Jay White already in a singles capacity is huge. So the fact that I also get to get revenge on Jon Moxley for not just beating me, but the way he defeated me to earn the three points ahead of me, to earn his 12 points, I get two birds in one stone type of thing. So it makes for some very interesting storytelling, very interesting matchups, very interesting hard-hitting action. You got three of the absolute best in the industry and myself up there as one of the top three in the tournament, in the Gold League as well. So everybody should be pulling for myself, of course, but everybody should be on pins and needles, on edge, because this could go three different ways, any which way. There's no favorites.”

Asked if there are any other members of the C2 that he would like to wrestle in the future who wasn't in his particular bracket, Strickland named one of the top stars in the Blue League: Andrade El Idolo.

“For me, me and Andrade have never had a singles match. We've interacted in battle royales before,” Strickland said. “He actually eliminated me in a battle royale, so that's someone of course I would love to go on-on-one with, just on a pay-per-view, no commercial breaks, just balls to the wall, one-on-one. He's one of the hardest hitters the industry has to offer, so I really want to take my talents against that. I already went up against RUSH, who's one of the hardest hitters in AEW, and Andrade's one of the most unique talents that wrestling has to offer, so I think me and him can make some magic.”

Would it be cool to see a feud between Strickland and Andrade? Sure thing, as both ended up near the top of their respective brackets and are most certainly capable of doing far more than they've been afforded by AEW as of late. If TK wants to make the number one contenders for either the AEW World Championship or the new AEW Continental Championship feel important, pitting that duo against each other could lead to an awesome match.
