AEW‘s Hardy Brothers have had a difficult week.
What started as anticipation for a three-way ladder match for the Tag Team Title on Dynamite turned into sad news as Jeff Hardy was arrested Monday morning for a DUI. The Hardys were taken off the ladder match – a match The Young Bucks ended up winning for the belts – and Jeff Hardy has since been suspended without pay until he completes rehab and can maintain sobriety.
Matt has been very upfront about the situation, talking at length on his podcast about what he and his brother are experiencing, expressing heartbreak at the potential lost opportunity of a final Hardy Brothers run, and maintaining a feeling of optimism and hope for what lies ahead.
However, Jeff's arrest does not solely affect AEW, as a reunion of the Hardys brought with it interest from numerous promotions nationally and internationally. The first Hardy reunion match was not in an AEW ring, but actually in BTW last March, and the brothers had since worked at NEW, IWC, GLCW, and MCW.
With the cancelation of the AEW tag team match, the status of the Hardy Brothers in another promotion, AAA, was also brought into question, as Matt and Jeff were set to compete at the main event of Lucha Libre AAA Triplemania 30 against Dragon Lee and Dralistico. However, an announcement came that Matt would still be there, just with a “Mystery Partner.”
“Who could this partner be,” many wondered. Well, ahead of the match itself, people got their answer: Matt Hardy's mystery partner is…. Johnny Hardy?

That's right, wrestling's favorite name chameleon John Morrison, who you may also know as Johnny Impact, Johnny Game-Changer, and more recently Johnny Elite, is now the long-lost third Hardy brother for Triplemania.
This announcement certainly makes the most of a bad situation. Morrison is a fun competitor who can definitely hold his own in the ring and has had plenty of Lucha experience.
While it's fairly certain that this pairing is not the long-term plan for Matt and the Hardys, no matter the outcome of the match itself, it is nice to see Matt's optimism paying off.
