The Los Angeles Angels are doing everything they can to avoid losing two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani in free agency this offseason, but they ultimately may come up short in their quest to do so. One thing they have much more control over is the future of Mike Trout, and it sounds like there are no plans for him to be on the move anytime soon.

With the Angels continuing to struggle, and potentially losing Ohtani this offseason, some folks have wondered whether or not that would prompt them to trade Trout and officially blow up their roster. General manager Perry Minasian quickly shot down those rumors earlier this offseason, and doubled down on that stance with the Winter Meetings in full swing.

Via Sam Blum:

“Mike Trout definitively will not be traded this offseason, Perry Minasian said. It likely was never going to happen. But he said it definitively today.”

Mike Trout will continue trying to help lead the Angels turnaround

Angels' Mike Trout

Throughout his career with the Angels, Trout has established himself as one of the greatest baseball players of all time. And despite that, Los Angeles has achieved virtually nothing during his time with the team. Fans have been pining for Trout to request a trade to try to find a way to win a championship before he calls it a career, but he's remained committed to the Angels through all their struggles.

Even with these trade rumors flaring up, the Angels have no interest in moving Trout, even though undergoing a full-scale rebuild would probably be their best move. So for now, Los Angeles is hanging onto Trout, while simultaneously hoping that they can find a way to pair him up with Ohtani for the next few years.
