An accidental triple? Who else but Mike Trout! In the sixth inning of a 1-0 game with the Angels leading the Guardians in Anaheim, Shane Bieber was facing Mike Trout. Bieber was spinning a gem but Trout had squared two balls up off of the Cleveland ace. But both of Trout's hard hits had resulted in outs. So when Trout took the following check swing, nobody in the park expected it to result in an extra base hit, let alone a three-bagger.
But that is exactly what happened.

The play was even more shocking to see in person. I was at the game and had seen Trout smash two balls prior to this swing. It is still incredible to think that this play ended in a triple. The Angels would end up stranding Mike Trout at third base in the inning. However, the Halos pulled out a 3-0 victory after Taylor Ward drove in all 3 runs on two home runs from the leadoff spot.

Trout was hit in the hand by a pitch over a week ago and there was fear that the injury could be long term. Fortunately, the Angels' outfielder's X-Rays came back negative and he was listed as day-to-day. He only missed a few games before returning to the lineup.
Mike Trout and the Angels are playing well this year and they have a realistic chance of making the postseason for the first time since 2014.
Their series against the Guardians continues on Tuesday with LHP Patrick Sandoval set to take the hill.
